FASTER Project Partners

The FASTER consortium gathers seven European and Tunisian partners: Two EU partners of established scientific excellence in the topic, CREAF and the Lund University, will ensure strengthening of researchers and technicians of INRGREF and the associated IRESA (the Institution for Agricultural Research and Higher Education) centres. Europe for Business will then evaluate the experience from the economic perspective, and Vision Communication will ensure an appropriate public awareness, dissemination of results, and, jointly with The Node, trainings support. Finally, AVFA (the Agriculture Extension and Training Agency) will serve as a liaison with policy makers and related stakeholders making sure to integrate the FASTER results in national policies.

The National Research Institute for Rural Engineering Water and Forestry is a Tunisian public research institution, contributing to the development of national policy for research in the fields of rural engineering, water, and forests. It also supports the application of innovative solutions and mainstreaming of research results and technology to local farmers and policy-makers linked to water, forestry and agricultural sectors in view of climate change and related challenges.

Affiliated with the Ministry of Agriculture, the Institution for Agricultural Research and Higher Education consists of 23 higher education and research institutes. It is currently running 37 laboratories and 11 research units, gathering almost 400 researchers and 500 scientists and 1100 students (MSc and PhD). IRESA’ s mandate includes the promotion of agricultural research in Tunisia through the coordination of research, higher education and extension as well as the dissemination of agricultural knowledge and the promotion of cooperation between Tunisian and foreign researchers. IRESA oversees about 90% of the agricultural research programmes and activities undertaken in Tunisia.

IRESA will actively support the FASTER project, connecting its extensive network of researchers and scientists with the opportunities offered by the capacity building program towards Research Excellence.

The Agriculture Extension and Training Agency is a public administrative institution under the authority of the Ministry of Agriculture, Water Resources and Fisheries. AVFA was created in 1990 and has 40 vocational training centres spread all over the country as well as 2100 ha of lands dedicated to training, experiments and production. AVFA has a practical know-how in the field of sustainable agriculture, working closely with researchers to transfer the use of innovative techniques and tools for monitoring plants, the environment and water and energy consumption.

AVFA co-leads WP5 on excellence sustainability and will also be actively involved as liaison with policymakers and related stakeholders. With, amongst others, objective to improve Senior trainers and Farmer’s Advisory Agents knowledge and professional skills to transfer easier scientific results into practical information for farmers.

Barcelona,  CREAF is a public research centre dedicated to terrestrial ecology, territorial analysis and global change. It strives to contribute to conservation and management of the environment and territory, in addition to adaptation to environmental change at local, regional, and global scales, functioning as a bridge between academia, administrations, and society, and promoting global awareness.

CREAF co-leads WP3 on capacity building and WP4 on the creation of the Living Lab. It is also actively involved in all WP but especially in WP2, in charge of networking activities, and WP5, for the development of excellence research indicators and the future research guidelines.

Founded in 1666, Lund University is ranked among the world’s top 100 universities. It offers a broad range of programmes and courses, based on cross-disciplinary and cutting-edge research. The research at the Department of Water Resources Engineering during the last thirty years has largely focussed on water resources problems in arid and semiarid developing countries, among which Tunisia also stands out.  

To support, coordinate and expand its research on the Middle East, Lund University founded in 2007 the Center for Middle Eastern Studies – currently an international hub for interdisciplinary research on sustainable development in the Middle East.

In collaboration with CREAF, LU co-leads FASTER WP3 on capacity building and will organize under WP4 the Summer school program for young researchers on FAS concept and opportunities, developing innovative learning solutions to FAS technicians. LU will also participate in Institutional networking and develop new research avenues and approaches.

Europe for Business is a European consulting company specialising in Greentech consulting (Energy, Water, Waste, circular economy), International Cooperation, Innovation Management and Strategy as well as hands-on management of commercialization for a portfolio of researchers located in Europe, the Middle East and Latin America.

Within the FASTER Project, EFB is contributing to WP3 providing trainings related to funding and transfer to industry. Also, it will be implied in business stakeholder awareness of the living-Lab in WP4. Finally, EFB will lead the creation of the FAS job lab of WP5.
