FASTER addresses the specific challenges of climate adaptation, aiming at improving the overall scientific and innovation capacity of INRGREF. Over the three years of the project, this was mainly achieved by developing and providing the necessary monitoring, network, guidelines, support and tools to maintain the expected results in excellent research.
In order to conduct such research, we have provided the document “Guidelines on Future Research”. The aim of it is to provide insights on the most interesting fields of research and guide future efforts towards the socio-economic objective of adapting to climate change.
During the elaboration, surveys and two working tables were carried out. The work done helped to identify current key problems in the field and how to solve them.
During the discussions, issues were raised related to the importance of agriculture and its crucial role in the adaptation to climate change. Some of the main steps towards achieving the set goals were identified:
- Expanding a variety of stakeholders who are normally excluded from decision making processes.
- Integration of an interdisciplinary environment that can stimulate the development of innovative solutions using living labs and hubs.
- Supporting farmers’ associations and small farmers in Tunisia, which contribute greatly to achieve recognition and to disseminate successful adaptation practices.
- Conducting communication, awareness raising, and capacity building campaigns for the education of society that facilitate putting in practice new ideas.
Summarizing the results of surveys and meetings, key guidelines on the future were identified that will significantly affect the socio-ecosystems and agro-environment development. These final conclusions indicate the necessary direction that needs to be addressed in order to achieve full resilience and adaptation to climate change.
